Denali

There are many routes on Denali,
otherwise known as Mt McKinley, in Alaska.
I
attempted a more technical route (West Rib) compared
to the standard route (West Buttress) in 1999. Here
is my Denali
climbing log (Word file, 105 kB).

the thumbnail below to see the climbing routes:

Books about Denali
The following will give you a good idea of what
can happen on Denali! These ones just happen to have
ended up on my bookshelf. There are many others out
there to read.
- 6194 Denali Solo by Ed Darack, Ed Darack
Photography 1995 - in my opinion, how NOT to do it!
- Minus 148 degrees by Art Davidson, Cloudcap
Press 1986 - the first winter ascent: DEFINITELY how
not to do it!! This book is a great story and a fine
read. It was the source of my original desire to
experience Denali for myself.

Books 1998 - a comprehensive look at a variety of
climbing routes on Denali.
- Denali's West Buttress by Colby Coombs, The
Mountaineers 1997 - nice Bradford Washburn photos;
however this only covers the standard route.
- Facing the Extreme by Ruth Anne Kocour, St.
Martin's Press 1998 - a woman's story of the worst
storm on Denali during a guided trip up the West
Buttress
- Surviving Denali by Jonathan Waterman, The
